ELECTRONIC FILING - ELECTRONIC BANKRUPTCY FILINGS
Electronic Case Filing (ECF) System; PACER System
All federal bankruptcy courts in California have now implemented electronic case filing (ECF) systems. All cases and adversary proceedings are assigned to the ECF system, and the clerk maintains an electronic docket. Certain documents as designated by the bankruptcy court clerk, including original bankruptcy petitions, may be filed (and sometimes must be filed) electronically. Each court's procedures will govern the disposition of original signatures, voluminous exhibits, etc. As licensed California Attorneys, we have obtained an ECF system login and password from the court clerk in order to participate and file.
Each of the four bankruptcy court districts of California uses the PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records) computerized docket system for tracking bankruptcy filings and we are authorized to file in all districts in California. The PACER electronic files include each bankruptcy case's docket number, an index of pleadings and other documents filed in the case, and the claims register.
